Argostoli lies in southwestern Kefalonia, at the far end of the bay with the same name and it is the capital of the island since 1757. It is the largest town of the island and has a well organized port and strong commercial activity. Argostoli brings together the traditional Ionian architecture, where the red tiled roofs and the large verandas dominate, and the modern city planning that dictates long wide streets, a lot of pedestrianization and modern buildings. The commercial and social centre of the town is around Lithostroto, Sitemporon streets and the central square of Argostoli, where you will find numerous restaurants, cafés and clubs. The coast road of Argostoli is named after the great Kefalonian politician Antonis Tritsis.Paved with pebbles and planted with fine palm trees the coast road is the gem of the town.
